Two leading insurance companies are reinforcing their footprint in Western Canada through strategic senior-level hires. These new appointments are designed to drive business growth and enhance service delivery in key regional markets.
Sedgwick Welcomes Dana Sharp to Calgary MCL Team
Sedgwick has announced the addition of Dana Sharp (pictured above, left) as Senior General Adjuster within its Major Complex Loss (MCL) division in Calgary. With over a decade of hands-on experience, Sharp brings deep expertise in condominium corporation and residential property claims.
Over the years, Sharp has managed claims related to catastrophic events such as water damage, hailstorms, fire incidents, and high-wind disasters. Her portfolio includes multi-unit residential and commercial properties, where she’s known for her calm leadership during high-stakes situations.
Importantly, Sharp has developed a strong reputation for navigating complex property losses with precision and care. She’s especially skilled in working with condo boards and stakeholders during emotionally charged loss events.
“Dana will be an important addition to our team,” said Devin Shillington, vice president at Sedgwick Canada. “Her experience and dedication to quality will be a tremendous asset as we continue to support our clients with responsiveness and expertise across Western Canada.”
Sharp echoed her enthusiasm for the new role. “I’m ready to contribute to the team’s ongoing success and to support the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients,” she said.
Her addition is part of Sedgwick’s ongoing investment in talent and regional expertise, particularly in Alberta, where demand for experienced adjusters continues to rise.

Westland Insurance Appoints Sarah Cameron as Vice President for BC
In a similar move, Westland Insurance has appointed Sarah Cameron (pictured above, right) as Vice President of Commercial Lines for British Columbia, effective July 21, 2025.
Cameron enters the role with more than 20 years of experience across Canada’s insurance industry. Her background spans both public and private sectors, with core strengths in strategic planning, business transformation, and operational excellence.
She has led major teams, worked alongside regulators, collaborated with carriers, and actively engaged with industry associations. Her broad network and leadership acumen make her a strong asset for Westland’s continued expansion.
“Sarah is a perfect addition to Westland’s BC Commercial Lines practice,” said Don Thompson, chief operating officer at Westland. “She brings extensive experience in leading large commercial broker teams across Western Canada and spearheading successful transformation efforts.”
Cameron expressed excitement about her new role. “In this role, I aim to accelerate growth in commercial lines by building connected, high-performing teams and implementing strategies that enhance client outcomes,” she said.
Her appointment aligns with Westland Insurance’s national growth strategy, particularly its ambition to scale commercial offerings and deepen partnerships with both regional and national insurers.

Expanding Footprints in a Competitive Market
Both appointments signal a clear intent by Sedgwick and Westland to strengthen their influence in the insurance landscape of Western Canada. The region is increasingly competitive, with demand growing for more specialized insurance services in both the property claims and commercial lines sectors.
By investing in seasoned professionals, these companies are not only improving internal capabilities but also enhancing client confidence. Moreover, their emphasis on local expertise ensures they remain responsive to regional needs while maintaining a broader national outlook.
These moves also underscore a larger trend: insurance firms are prioritizing leadership agility and operational excellence to stay ahead in a transforming market. As risks become more complex, especially due to climate-related catastrophes, experienced leadership is vital.
From large-scale property losses in Alberta to commercial coverage demands in British Columbia, the West is seeing a shift in insurance dynamics. Organizations like Sedgwick and Westland are positioning themselves to respond swiftly, serve better, and grow faster.
