The Insurance Institute of Ontario (IIO) has announced the appointment of Melanie Muise as its new president, succeeding outgoing leader Tracy Krunic. This transition marks the continuation of a long-standing tradition of leadership excellence within Ontario’s insurance education community.
Bringing over 20 years of experience in Canada’s insurance sector, Muise steps into the role with a strong track record in brokerage operations and strategic leadership. She currently serves as President of Personal Lines and Travel Insurance at Navacord, one of Canada’s largest and most respected insurance brokerages.
In her role at Navacord, Muise oversees nationwide operations for personal and travel insurance. She drove growth through acquisitions and digital innovation. Previously, she held the position of Chief Operating Officer, where she led initiatives in client experience, marketing, and information technology, and played a key role in mergers and acquisitions.

Looking ahead, Muise emphasized the Institute’s continued dedication to professional development in the property and casualty insurance industry.
“With new technologies, evolving risks, and a changing workforce, we will continue to innovate and prepare the next generation of insurance professionals to lead with knowledge, confidence, and care,” she said.
Her vision aligns with the Institute’s mission to equip future insurance leaders with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills.

Peter Hohman, president and CEO of the Insurance Institute of Canada, praised Muise’s appointment, noting that it reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to strong, forward-thinking leadership. He also paid tribute to Tracy Krunic, recognizing her impact as the immediate past president.

The Insurance Institute of Ontario was originally formed in 1899 as the Insurance Institute of Toronto. It has a rich history of fostering insurance expertise in the region. Over time, it evolved into a province-wide institution that now plays a central role in shaping Canada’s insurance talent pipeline.

The Insurance Institute of Canada, which oversees the Ontario division, supports more than 41,000 members nationwide. Additionally, over 18,000 students are currently enrolled in formal education programs offered by the Institute.
It also manages the Chartered Insurance Professionals’ Society, representing more than 18,000 graduates who hold the prestigious CIP® and FCIP® designations. These credentials are highly regarded across the insurance and financial services industries.
